The Ford IDS activation codes are the software codes required to activate an installation of Ford IDS. Ford Motor Company offers three methods for obtaining activation codes that are valid only for the current year: 1) purchase a new vehicle equipped with Ford IDS; 2) purchase a programming cable for your old vehicle from an authorized dealer; 3) download the computer program, which is free to all users, and follow the steps outlined in either “Programming Cable-Only Activation” or “Internet Activation.” Once you have obtained your code, enter it into the appropriate slot or slot field on page four of your user guide. This will activate your software and allow you to access other features. Ford IDS allows the driver to monitor and adjust numerous vehicle settings on an individual basis or to adjust multiple parameters of a vehicle on a coordinated basis. Changes made to the vehicle settings can be saved in order to facilitate future use by other drivers. Users can access IDS through a wired or wireless computer connection (cable-radio and interactive-radio). There is no limit on the number of computers that can be linked together for improved data transfer rates and reduced transmission time delays. The interface is completely user-friendly and very easy to use, with no need for extensive technical knowledge of programming. The Ford IDS also allows the user to input product information for an individual vehicle by accessing “Edit” mode. Once inside Edit mode, users can change the name of the vehicle, the part number and description of installed accessories, and even indicate whether or not a specific vehicle is equipped with a dealer-installed accessory that is not otherwise listed on the “Options/Accessories” page. Ford IDS also allows the user to gather and view diagnostic information on multiple vehicles simultaneously (up to eight). This information includes the VIN, vehicle identification number; TCM/PCM identification codes; transmission, ABS, airbag, and body control module (BCM) serial numbers; current engine & transmission fluid temperatures; fuel tank level information; diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the TCM/PCM memory modules; connection status of all data link connector (DLC) pins. Ford IDS also allows the user to freeze frame and clear DTCs. The final feature of Ford IDS is its GPS-navigation system. This system combines a driver’s current position with a complete map of North America and provides audible turn-by-turn navigation instructions. The user can program the GPS-navigation to store the user’s destination as well as all vehicle settings. Once the system receives a signal from a transponder (radar detector), it will alert the driver as to whether the vehicle is being driven within safe limits and if so, reprogram itself accordingly so that drivers have always have an updated map. Ford IDS is a satellite-based data link system for Ford vehicles with a factory installed Global Positioning System (GPS). It allows Ford owners to monitor, manage and configure ABS, airbag, TCM/PCM, VIN identification codes information easily from their computer. cfa1e77820
